The STM maintenance workers’ strike resumed on Monday.
Expect disruptions with metro and bus services reduced during off-peak hours.
Riders are urged to check the STM’s website for updated schedules and plan extra travel time.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — until October 5th – service will only run normally during these hours:
- Mornings from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m.
- Afternoons from 2:45 to 5:45 p.m.
- Late night from 11 p.m. to closing.
Union counteroffer rejected by STM Saturday night
On Saturday, Sept. 27, the STM received a proposal from the union regarding part of the collective agreement’s normative clauses. However, the STM says the offer did not take into account the financial challenges or the operational realities of the transit system and showed no real progress.
In response, the STM has submitted a counter-proposal aiming to bring both parties closer to an agreement. Negotiations are scheduled to continue on Monday.
The STM negotiation committee says it has the full authority and expertise to reach a fair deal with the union. The transit agency is firmly committed to the negotiation process and is making every effort to avoid a strike.
If the maintenance workers’ union decides to proceed with its planned strike, it could last until Oct. 5.
Nearly 2,400 maintenance workers with the STM launched the two-week rotating strike on September 22.
The job action follows over a year of failed negotiations between the union and STM management.
With salary increases and inflation concerns at the heart of the dispute.
