A 44-year-old woman has died, days after she was allegedly a victim of intimate partner violence in Saint-Charles-sur-Richelieu, in the Montérégie.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were called to a home on Chemin des Patriotes around 1 a.m. on Sept. 26 – where they found the woman seriously injured.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition and on Wednesday the SQ confirmed that she died this morning.

A 42-year-old man was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault and remained detained until his next court date Oct. 3.

It’s likely the charges will be upgraded.

There is a publication ban that prevents revealing the identities of the parties involved.

Investigators from the SQ, including those from the Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crimes Investigation Division, were assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
