The SAAQ is cutting about 100 positions.
A statement from the Quebec Auto Insurance Board confirms the cuts will be across several sectors.
“Since November 1, 2024, the Treasury Board has imposed a hiring freeze so that departments and agencies can reach their authorized staffing targets. As a result, several departments and agencies, including the SAAQ, must optimize the use of resources and proceed with job terminations.
“Approximately 100 positions are affected,” said SAAQ spokesperson Simon-Pierre Poulin, in an email to CityNews.
Poulin says customer service and operational capacity will be maintained.
The SAAQ has been under scrutiny following the SAAQclic fiasco, which cost tax payers over $500 million more than planned.
The overspending led to a public inquiry: the Gallant Commission.
Commissioner Denis Gallant is scheduled to submit his report by December 15.
