City of Montreal set to practice earthquake simulation today

By News Staff

The annual earthquake simulation exercise will take place on Thursday at 10:16 a.m. throughout Quebec.

The City of Montreal wants the public to join the awareness and preparation campaign.

They’re encouraging all citizens to practice the safest techniques during an earthquake: crouch, take cover and hold on until the tremors are over.

“Since the Island of Montreal is located in a seismic zone, the Montréal Agglomeration Civil Security invites the public to participate in this earthquake awareness and preparedness event by performing the recommended actions at the indicated time,” they explained in a press release. “These three simple actions can make all the difference in a real-life situation.”

“Montreal encourages everyone to practice this technique,” they added.

Held annually on the third Thursday of October, the ‘Grande Secousse du Québec’ aims to raise public awareness of seismic risks.

The city says the goal is to promote good behaviours and encourage the population to update their emergency response plans and emergency kits at home, schools, businesses, and organizations.
