Montreal police investigating attempted arson on RDP commercial building

By News Staff

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating after a commercial building in the Rivière-des-Prairies area was damaged following an attempted arson early Tuesday morning.

At around 1 a.m., officers say that they received a 911 call about the incident on Henri-Bourassa Blvd. near Rodolphe-Forget Blvd.

“When the police arrived on the scene, the fire had extinguished itself or was extinguished by the sprinklers,” explained Caroline Chèvrefils, a SPVM media relations officer. “According to the first information, one or more suspects would have thrown incendiary material inside the building and [fled] before the arrival of the police.”

She added that damage to the building was minor and caused by water from the sprinklers.

No one was reportedly injured, and no arrests have been made so far.

The investigation has been transferred to the SPVM arson squad.
