Pablo Rodriguez reveals Liberal Party election commitments

By Patrice Bergeron, The Canadian Press

Liberal leader Pablo Rodriguez outlined some of his 2026 election platform on Saturday: 24/7 CLSCs, a general meeting on education, economic summits in each region, and improvements to the Home Ownership Plan (RAP).

In front of Liberal activists who had rarely been seen so enthusiastic in recent years, he presented himself as a unifying leader by directly attacking the party he considers his main adversary, the Parti Québécois.

Rodriguez took part in his first PLQ general council meeting in Trois-Rivières on Saturday since being elected leader of the party last June.

Less than a year before the elections, he whipped up the 500 activists who acknowledged during the day that they must rebuild and reorganize the party in order to come out on top in the polls.

“I have a message for the leader of the Parti Québécois: when things go wrong, we change the government, not the country,” he told Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, who has pledged to hold a referendum on independence if he forms the next government.

“Together, we will beat the CAQ, beat the Parti Québécois and form the next government,” he concluded to applause.

He accused his opponents, both François Legault and St-Pierre Plamondon, of sowing division.

“The first duty of a premier is to unite,” he argued.

CLSC

In a 35-minute speech, Rodriguez pledged to restore the local community service center (CSLC) to its former glory and make it a gateway to the health system, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“We will do this by convincing doctors (…), by putting in place the necessary conditions to interest doctors in their regions,” he assured.

“All of this will be quantified when we present our electoral plan,” he said only.
