A woman in her 80s is in critical condition after being struck by a bus in Montreal North early Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the Montreal Police (SPVM) said a call came in at 6:55 a.m. reporting a woman lying in the street at the intersection of Pie-IX Blvd. and d’Amiens Street.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the woman conscious and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
After reviewing surveillance footage, police determined the incident involved a suspected hit-and-run by a Société de transport de Montréal (STM) bus. Investigators said the bus was making a left turn onto Pie-IX Blvd. when the collision occurred.
Police say they have been trying to locate the bus and its driver.
No arrests have been made, but authorities are communicating with the STM on the investigation.
The STM told CityNews that its teams are trying to shed light on the events and analyze the circumstances of the incident. “We are also cooperating with the SPVM investigation. We can confirm that the driver is cooperating with the investigation and did not intend to flee the scene of the accident. However, we are allowing the SPVM investigation to run its course,” the transit agency said.
