A man was stabbed Friday night during an altercation that escalated in Montreal.
However, it was not until around 1:15 a.m. Saturday morning that a 911 call reported the armed assault near the intersection of Remembrance St. and 32nd Ave. in the borough of Lachine.
“When police arrived on the scene, they located the victim, a 52-year-old man. He was conscious and had been wounded in the upper body with a sharp object,” said Officer Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Montreal police (SPVM).
The man was taken to a hospital, where his condition was considered stable despite serious injuries.
“According to initial information, it was around 11:00 p.m. that a conflict allegedly escalated between the victim and the suspects. That’s when the victim was allegedly injured with a sharp object,” said the SPVM spokesperson. An SPVM investigation has been launched and “the scene has been secured for investigators to analyze so they can try to understand the exact circumstances of this event,” said Chèvrefils.
She added that “checks will be made on possible surveillance cameras located near the scene” and that no arrests had been made at this time.
The motive for the crime remains unknown at this time. It is unclear whether the victim knew his attackers or whether the incident is linked to criminal circles.
The SPVM investigation is ongoing.
