Hydro-Québec is still working to restore power to customers knocked off the grid earlier this week after a snowstorm that forced 360,000 customers into the dark.
By 1 p.m. Thursday, about 8,000 Hydro customers were still without power. But that number climbed back up to 9,300 by 4 p.m, but was down to 4,600 just before 6 p.m.
The hardest-hit areas – the Montérégie, Lanaudière and Saguenay – continued to see outages, as did some areas of Montreal.
Rain and temperatures hovering around two degrees Celsius helped the snow melt away on Thursday morning.
But according to the forecast, shovels and umbrellas should not be leaving anyone’s sight just yet.
Environment Canada issuing special weather statement for the Greater Montreal region – saying we could see freezing rain and up to 10 mm of ice accumulate Saturday night into Sunday morning.
While Friday will see a mix of sun and clouds, Saturday will start off with periods of snow on Saturday – with about five to 10 cm expected to fall. That will change to rain – possibly freezing rain – overnight.
Pavements, sidewalks and surfaces could become icy and slippery. Road conditions could be difficult as well.
The temperatures should climb after that, though.
On Sunday, there will be rain or snow and a high of three degrees. Any possible flurries are expected to continue into Monday.
Sun and clouds are set to return for Tuesday and Wednesday.
