Two people were shot in two separate incidents early Friday morning in Montreal. The Montreal Police (SPVM) say that the incidents are related and the investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, the first victim was identified as 21-year-old man, who remains in critical condition, according to Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the SPVM.

The second victim, a 17-year-old teenage male, was in critical condition, but SPVM have confirmed that he is now in stable condition.

A call was first made to 911 around 1 a.m., Friday, regarding a person shot in an apartment on Théodore Street, near Ontario Street, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

“When police arrived on the scene, they located a man who had been shot. He was wounded in the upper body and was unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, where he is currently in critical condition,” reported Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM, on Friday.

The two occupants of the dwelling, a 39-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, were also at the scene. The woman had a minor injury to her hand and was taken to hospital. The man was uninjured and was taken to an investigation center. Both will be questioned by police.

“According to initial information, suspects arrived at the residence and an altercation ensued between the two occupants and the suspects, during which one of the suspects was shot and wounded. Following the shooting, the other suspects fled before the police arrived. A firearm and shell casings were found at the scene,” said Chèvrefils.

A security perimeter was set up to protect the scene for investigators and forensic technicians. The canine unit was also called to the scene. Checks will also be made of any surveillance cameras located near the scene.

The second victim, a 17-year-old teenager, was located by Urgences-santé paramedics at around 1:15 a.m. near a Montreal hospital.

The teenager also suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body. The location where the second victim was wounded and the circumstances surrounding this incident are unknown.

The SPVM indicates that it is still too early to confirm whether there is a link between these two incidents.
