Sun, rain, snow ahead as Dec. 1 winter tire deadline approaches in Quebec

Montreal is heading into a stretch of unsettled late-November weather just as Quebec’s winter tire deadline approaches.

The province’s Highway Safety Code requires all vehicles registered in Quebec, including rentals, to be equipped with winter tires from Dec. 1 to March 15. Drivers who fail to comply face fines ranging from $200 to $300.

Experts warn that delaying the switch can be risky, noting that rising tire prices may tempt some motorists to wait despite deteriorating road conditions.

Snow and rain on the way

Light snow early Monday will gave way to mainly cloudy skies with a high of 3°C. Temperatures dip to 1°C tonight under continued cloud cover.

Tuesday will stay mainly cloudy with a high of 7°C before showers move in overnight.

Rain is in the forecast Wednesday with a high of 5°C , followed by windy periods of rain or flurries at night and a low of –1 °C.

Thursday brings a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 2°C, while more flurries are possible overnight.

Cooler air settles in Friday with cloudy conditions and a high near 0 °C, dropping to –8°C overnight. The weekend will bring a mix of sun and clouds Saturday with a high of –3°C, and periods of snow Sunday with a high of –1°C.
