As temperatures drop, the City of Montreal is opening a temporary warming shelter at the former Hôtel-Dieu hospital site starting Tuesday evening.
The centre will accommodate up to 50 people each night, where they can warm up, rest and have a snack.
“With the opening of this warming centre at the Hôtel-Dieu, we are quickly deploying another solution to protect the most vulnerable people during the winter,” Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada said.
“I want to emphasize the collaboration of the members of the crisis team, thanks to which people experiencing homelessness will not only be able to warm up, but also benefit from respectful and compassionate support. Together, we continue to work to find solutions for the most vulnerable.”

This latest warming centre is in addition to warming centres that will be opening in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve from mid-December to March 31.
The city also opened a temporary emergency shelter last week at the YMCA Centre-Ville
The City of Montreal says it will ensure the safety of residents in the area.
