Rain delays opening of Mont-Sainte-Anne for another day

By The Canadian Press

Rain has forced the Mont-Sainte-Anne ski resort, which was due to launch its season on Friday after experiencing problems with its ski lifts, to postpone its opening for an additional day.

Mont-Sainte-Anne has announced that the “weather conditions and the amount of rain forecast” will prevent it from opening its slopes on Friday as planned. The season will therefore begin on Saturday.

The opening of Mont-Sainte-Anne was postponed due to an order requiring the shutdown of four ski lifts.

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec, which issued the order on December 12, conducted safety checks that proved conclusive.

The order targeted the L’Express du Nord, L’Express du Sud, L’Étoile filante, and La Panorama Express aerial ski lifts.

The Régie du bâtiment had demanded that the lifts be shut down to ensure their “proper functioning” after work carried out by the resort on the electrical circuits.

After the order was announced, the Parti Québécois urged the Legault government to terminate its contractual relationship with the resort’s current operator.

The operation of Mont-Sainte-Anne was transferred to the private sector under a 99-year leasehold agreement that is set to expire in 2093.
