Cold, blustery start to Christmas week as Montreal braces for snow and fluctuating temperatures

Montrealers are in for a wintry mix to start the holiday week, with gusty winds, snow and cold wind chills giving way to more unsettled conditions heading into Christmas and beyond.

A few flurries are expected to end early Sunday afternoon, followed by a mix of sun and cloud. There is a risk of snow squalls this morning, with a local snowfall amount of up to two centimetres. Winds from the southwest will reach 40 km/h, gusting to 60, before becoming west at 20 km/h with gusts up to 40 near noon. Temperatures will fall to minus-4 Celsius this morning and remain steady through the day, with wind chill values near minus-13.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with northwest winds at 20 km/h, gusting to 40. The overnight low will be minus-12 Celsius, with wind chill near minus-11 this evening and dropping to minus-20 overnight.

Cloudy conditions are expected on Monday, with periods of light snow beginning around noon. Winds will be light, up to 15 km/h. The daytime high will reach minus-6 Celsius, with wind chill near minus-17 in the morning and minus-10 in the afternoon.

Monday night will remain cloudy with a low of minus-8.

Snow is forecast for Tuesday, with a high of minus-3 Celsius. Snow will continue into the night, with temperatures dipping to minus-4.

Christmas Eve is expected to bring a mix of sun and cloud, with a daytime high of minus-1 Celsius. Cloudy periods are forecast overnight, with a low of minus-7.

Christmas Day will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of minus-2 Celsius. Snow is expected Thursday night, with temperatures falling to minus-2.

Milder air arrives Friday, with cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of flurries. The high will climb to plus-1 Celsius. Friday night will see cloudy periods and a low of minus-8.

Cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of flurries continue into Saturday, with a daytime high of minus-4.
