A water main break forced the closure of part of Viger Avenue in Old Montreal on Monday afternoon, the City of Montreal said.
The break occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Viger Avenue near Jeanne-Mance Street, on the south side of the roadway, according to city spokesperson Philippe Sabourin.
Police said officers were on site around 5:40 p.m. Monday and initially expected the area to reopen within about 30 minutes.

Crews lowered water pressure and brought the situation under control, Sabourin said, adding that no residents or businesses were left without water.
Viger Avenue was closed following the break, with the city planning to reopen one lane by about 6 p.m. Monday.

On Tuesday, the avenue remained closed between St-Urbain and Bleury streets as workers were seen working on the site.
The damaged pipe is a 12-inch aqueduct.
The city said there was no timeline yet for a full reopening, noting crews first need to dig to better assess the damage.
