Montreal police say no charges will be laid following an assault Monday night in Côte-des-Neiges because the victim declined to press charges.
Police were called around 10:25 p.m. to Dupuis Avenue and Côte-des-Neiges Road for the report of a victim who was assaulted by suspects.
According to police, the suspects approached the 34-year-old man and asked him for the time. When he took out his phone, the suspects attempted to steal it, leading to a physical altercation that escalated.
A video circulating on social media appears to show two suspects repeatedly striking the man for several seconds before fleeing the scene with his phone.
The victim sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and did not require transport to hospital, police said.
Montreal police reviewed video footage of the assault. However, the SPVM says no further investigation will be conducted because the victim declined to press charges.
The information was confirmed by Jean-Pierre Brabant, a media relations officer and spokesperson for the Montreal police.
