STM professional workers’ union overtime strike ends after tentative deal

The union representing STM professional workers has ended the overtime strike after a tentative agreement with STM management.

In a press release Friday, the Syndicat des employées et employés professionnels-les et de bureau, section locale 610 (SEPB-610), said that the deal was reached on Dec. 31.

SEPB-610 didn’t provide any details of the agreement, which the union had been negotiating for over a year.

“We will not disclose any details of the tentative agreement until we have consulted our members,” said Marc Glogowski, president of SEPB-610.

“They will have the final say. We will hold a meeting as soon as possible so that our members can vote on the agreement,” Glogowski added.

The STM, for its part, said its board of directors will need to ratify the agreement.

“Once again, we have reached an agreement in principle that relies on compromises by both parties and respects the established financial framework,” said Marie-Claude Léonard, STM CEO.

About 800 workers represented by SEPB-610 were on strike since Dec. 17 and was expected to go on until Jan. 11.

Meanwhile, about 2,400 STM maintenance workers continue to be on overtime strike until Jan. 11. STM had said its service could be affected the longer the strike lasted.STM had said the service could be affected the longer the strike lasted.
