Snow gives way to rain and milder temperatures in Montreal

A mix of snow, rain and fluctuating temperatures is in the forecast over the coming days.

Periods of snow continue today with winds up to 15 km/h and temperatures holding near minus -2 Celsius. Wind chills make it feel closer to minus -8 C.

“About 6 cm has been accumulated in Montreal currently,” said Julien Pellerin, Meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada.“Few flurries could persist but overall 6 cm of accumulation, this was a small system.”

Cloudy conditions persist tonight with a 40 per cent chance of flurries overnight. Temperatures remain near minus -2 C with a wind chill around minus -7 C.

Thursday starts cloudy before breaking into a mix of sun and cloud by morning. Winds stay light, with a high of plus + 6 C and a morning wind chill near minus -7 C.

“We will see an increase in temperatures on Thursday, above the seasonal average, we usually see temperatures of minus -5 C during this time but this is not a record,” said Pellerin. “The record was 11.3 C in 2008 during this period”

Rain moves in Friday with a high of plus +6 C, followed by showers overnight and a low of plus +1 C.

“By this weekend Montreal could see some loss of snow due to higher temperatures and rain,” said Pellerin.

Periods of rain continue Saturday with a high of plus +2 C, before rain tapers off overnight.

Sunday stays unsettled with periods of rain and a high near plus +2 C, while colder air returns overnight with a chance of flurries and a low of minus -9 C.

“Two systems of rain this weekend, may freeze over by Monday as temperatures will go back to seasonal norms,” added Pellerin.
