PLQ leadership: Charles Milliard campaign used images of Germany in campaign video

Days after Charles Milliard announced he is running again to be the leader of Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ), his campaign is facing controversy over use of images in its campaign material.

Le Journal de Montréal reported Thursday that Milliard’s campaign had used to images of Germany to represent Quebec in the campaign launch videos shared on social media.

In a statement to CityNews, spokesperson for Milliard’s campaign acknowledged the report.

“The videographer who made the video used royalty-free images,” Earl Corales. “This was an error on our part, and we will ensure that it does not happen again.”

Milliard, who came in second in last year’s leadership race, and Mario Roy, who placed third have so far announced that they are running to replace Pablo Rodriguez.

Rodriguez resigned a week before Christmas following  media revelations about the financing of his leadership campaign. He had been at the head of the PLQ for just over six months.

On Monday, PLQ announced that it has appointed an ethics officer to ensure compliance with the Elections Act during the new leadership race.

The new leader is to be elected at a convention to be held on March 14.
