A man is in critical condition after being involved in a collision with a snowplow tractor in Saint-Rémi, Montérégie.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision around 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning on Church Street.
According to initial reports, the driver of a pickup truck allegedly struck the tractor that had just cleared snow from a private driveway.
“According to preliminary information, the driver of the pickup truck collided with the snowplow tractor, which was leaving a private residence entrance,” explained Sergeant Marythé Bolduc, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The driver of the snowplow was not injured, but the situation is quite different for the driver of the other vehicle, who was alone on board.
“The man in his 30s was transported to a regional hospital for injuries which, unfortunately, are life-threatening,” said Sergeant Bolduc.
Church Street was closed until 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning to allow “a collision investigator from the Sûreté du Québec to conduct his investigation and clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding the event,” said the SQ spokesperson.
Road conditions were poor at the time of the accident, with snow and blowing snow in southern Quebec overnight, but no hypothesis was ruled out to explain this event.
