By News Staff & The Canadian Press

A 35-year-old man who was stabbed multiple times during a conflict that escalated overnight in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest borough is now out of danger, police say.

Emergency services were called just before 1 a.m. Tuesday to the corner of Notre-Dame Street West and Station Road, in the St-Henri neighbourhood, where the man was found with multiple injuries to his upper body, possibly caused by a sharp object, according to the Montreal police (SPVM).

The victim was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived and was transported to hospital.

While authorities initially feared for his life due to the severity of his injuries, police later confirmed his condition has stabilized.

Investigators believe a dispute involving several people escalated into violence. Police say multiple suspects were seen fleeing the scene following the incident.

No arrests have been made. The SPVM says investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, with assistance from a canine unit and forensic technician.
