REM service is back in operation after a network-wide interruption and delays affected transit riders during commute hours Tuesday morning.
REM said, in a post on X, that normal operations resumed at 9:42 a.m. in both directions.
“The disruptions were caused by a technical issue with two different trains that had to be taken out of service,” said Claudia Néron, spokesperson for REM operator, Pulsar. “These problems are unrelated to the current cold temperatures.”
Shuttle bus service was provided during the delays, Néron said.
At 7:54 a.m., the transit agency had said that “technical problem” was the cause for the delays without providing more details. Less than an hour later, REM said the service was completely down. Then, again, at 9:22 a.m. the service resumed on a delayed basis, REM said.
Discrepancies in French and English message alerts about the service resumption seemed to cause confusion and frustration among riders.
Journal de Montréal reported earlier Tuesday that since the Deux-Montagnes branch opened, REM has seen 16 service outages — roughly one every four days.
