Quebec solidaire: MNA Haroun Bouazzi will not run again in October 2026

Quebec solidaire MNA Haroun Bouazzi will leave political life after the end of his term in October 2026. He says he wants to continue his commitment “within civil society to defend social justice.”

“For a long time, I have been deeply convinced that all social change arises from a dance between social movements and the elected officials who bring their demands to the National Assembly. The guiding thread of my commitment for the last quarter of a century is the active and conscious participation in this dance,” he wrote on Facebook late Wednesday.

“I therefore still believe in the crucial importance of parliamentary action by left-wing political parties, but for the period that is beginning, I believe that my place is elsewhere,” adds the MP for Maurice-Richard.

At the end of 2024, Haroun Bouazzi provoked controversy by stating that he saw “every day” in the National Assembly “the construction of this Other” whose culture “would be dangerous or inferior.”

Haroun Bouazzi was elected under the Québec solidaire banner in 2022.
