Although the elections are still eight months away, political parties are already actively campaigning. The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) has announced two candidates for the Quebec City region ahead of the October election.
Marie-Josée Hélie will once again try her luck at being elected for Éric Duhaime’s Conservatives. She hopes to wrest the Montmorency riding from the Coalition Avenir Québec.
In 2022, she was a Conservative candidate in Taschereau. She received only 9 per cent of the vote.
The second candidate announced Thursday is Eliot Estévez-Verville, a student at Laval University. He will attempt to win the seat in the Taschereau riding, currently held by Québec solidaire.
Two weeks ago, Conservative leader Éric Duhaime announced that lawyer Jonathan Poulin would be running again in the Beauce-Sud riding. In 2022, he lost in that riding to the CAQ by only 428 votes.
Earlier this week, it was the turn of the Parti Québécois to present Sandra Hernandez who will be running for office in October 2026. However, it is not yet known in which riding she will be running.
In 2022, Éric Duhaime’s Conservatives received 13 per cent of the vote but failed to elect any members of Parliament. According to the polling aggregator Qc125, if the election were held today, they could win eight seats.
