Longueuil residents woke up to widespread power outages after a truck struck an electrical pole early Friday morning, knocking nearly 9,000 addresses off the grid at its peak.
Longueuil police (SPAL) say a traffic collision occurred around 6 a.m. in the parking lot of an IGA grocery store on Jean-Paul-Vincent Boulevard, near De la Métropole and Kirouac Streets, during which a Hydro pole was downed.
No injuries were reported.
Jean-Paul-Vincent Boulevard was closed for several hours as the crews repaired the electrical lines. It was re reopened at 10:40 a.m.
In a statement to CityNews, Hydro-Québec spokesperson Pascal Poinlane said, “The service was interrupted in the area at the request of emergency services, following an accident involving a vehicle and a utility pole.” Poinlane said power expected to fully restored shortly after 11 a.m.
However, according to Hydro-Québec website, 216 addresses were without power as of 12:53 a.m. The outage was expected to continue until 5 p.m. in the immediate vicinity of the IGA location, near where the collision happened.
Just before 7 a.m., nearly 9,000 addresses were affected.
