Former SAAQ employee arrested for alleged unauthorized computer access, breach of trust

A former employee for the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) has been arrested in connection with unauthorized access to government computer systems.

François Dagenais faces charges of unauthorized use of a computer, mischief with respect to computer data, and breach of trust, the Commissioner for the Fight Against Corruption (CLCC) said Monday.

He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Montreal courthouse on May 20. The allegation against him has not been tested in court.

The CLCC said its investigation found Dagenais allegedly accessed and altered information in the SAAQ’s system relating to an acquaintance and their relatives. The alleged activities took place between March 31, 2023, and Jan. 26, 2024.
