Quebec announces modernization, expansion of Polytechnique Montréal

By The Canadian Press

Quebec will invest nearly $269 million in the expansion and modernization of Polytechnique Montréal, which will begin this spring.

Quebec Premier François Legault made the announcement Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by, among others, Minister of Higher Education Martine Biron.

The project aims to train more engineering students in order to “support Quebec’s economic growth” and “carry out its major projects,” the government stated in a press release.

The project, valued at a total of $356.2 million, is scheduled to be completed in 2031.

The funds will be used, in particular, for the acquisition of half of the J.-Armand-Bombardier Pavilion — which belonged to the University of Montreal — the expansion of the pavilion, and the redesign and landscaping of the outdoor spaces.

“Quebec’s future depends on innovation, and innovation depends on our engineers. In a world that has profoundly changed, we must reshape our economy by building on our strengths,” Legault said in a press release.

“Quebec can count on world-class universities, such as Polytechnique, to train the talent our economy needs.”
