A major fire early Thursday morning forced several families from their homes in Montreal’s Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough.
Montreal firefighters (SIM) received the first call around 2:17 a.m. for a blaze at a vacant two-storey building on De Châteaubriand Avenue, near De Bellechasse Street. The building originally contained two housing units, and the fire quickly spread to the rest of the structure.
Residents in four neighbouring apartments across two adjacent buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
Four families are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.

About 120 firefighters and roughly 40 emergency vehicles remained on scene well into the morning as crews continued to work on extinguishing the flames.
Just after 8:30 a.m., fire officials said the blaze was not as intense as when they first arrived, but operations were still ongoing.
No injuries have been reported.
Authorities explain that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigators will only be able to begin once the building is safe to enter.
