Young skier critically injured in an incident in the Outaouais region

By The Canadian Press

A young skier remained in critical condition Wednesday evening following an accident earlier in the day at the Centre Vorlage ski resort in the Outaouais region.

The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. at the ski hill in the Wakefield sector of La Pêche, according to the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police service.

Authorities say the minor suffered serious injuries and was first transported to a local hospital before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.

Police say preliminary information suggests the incident occurred as the victim was preparing to get off a chairlift.

In a statement later Wednesday evening, the Centre Vorlage ski resort said first responders intervened at the unloading area of lift B. The centre added the girl was visiting the ski hill as part of a school trip.

The ski centre closed operations Wednesday evening to allow for the investigation and later announced on social media it will remain closed Thursday.

“We are deeply saddened by this event,” the centre said, adding it will fully cooperate with the police investigation.
