Head-on collision in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle: two dead and two seriously injured

By The Canadian Press

Two people in their sixties died and two others are fighting for their lives in hospital after a head-on collision between two vehicles in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, near the Canada-U.S. border, in Montérégie.

Emergency services were called on Saturday, around 3 p.m., to the scene of this face-to-face encounter on Route 202, near Rang Saint-Claude.

“The two vehicles involved were travelling on Route 202 in opposite directions, before there was a head-on collision. The collision resulted in two deaths, a 61-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman who were in the same vehicle,” explained Sergeant Valérie Beauchamp, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“The occupants of the second vehicle, in their thirties, suffered serious injuries. They are still in critical condition, but stabilized at the hospital,” said the sergeant in a telephone interview Sunday morning.

This section of Route 202 had to be closed for about two hours, the time it took for SQ reconstructionists to analyze the scene to clarify the circumstances of this head-on collision.
