‘One of the best MNAs in Quebec history’: Kelley pays tribute to Marwah Rizqy

Quebec MNA Gregory Kelley paid an emotional tribute to his wife and colleague Marwah Rizqy on Thursday, the day after new Liberal leader Charles Milliard announced the MNA for Saint-Laurent would not be returning to the party caucus.

“I will be able to tell my children that their father sat with one of the best MNAs in Quebec history,” said Kelley, his eyes welling with tears, during a brief scrum with reporters on Thursday at the National Assembly.

The MNA for Jacques-Cartier had already expressed his wish that his wife return to the caucus. On Thursday, he said he accepted the leader’s decision and praised Rizqy’s work as an MNA.

Kelley also confirmed he would remain with the Liberal team.

“That’s exactly what my constituents in Jacques-Cartier asked of me,” he said.

Rizqy was expelled from the Liberal caucus in December by former leader Pablo Rodriguez after she fired chief of staff Geneviève Hinse.

This event triggered a crisis that ended with Rodriguez’s resignation at the end of last year. The then-Liberal leader was embroiled in allegations of irregularities in the financing of his leadership campaign. The Unité permanente anticorruption (UPAC) has opened an investigation.

Hinse is suing Rizqy for $500,000 for her dismissal.

On Wednesday, Milliard announced Rizqy would not be returning to the caucus. He justified his decision by citing “all the ongoing procedures” and the fact that he did not have all the information about the events of the past few months.

Before all this, Rizqy had already announced she would not run again in 2026.
