Walmart set to close two Montreal stores

Walmart will be closing two stores on the island of Montreal by end of June, one in Pointe-aux-Trembles and the other in Côte-des-Neiges.

More than 237 employees from both locations will be affected and will be reassigned to other stores.

Walmart Canada told CityNews in a statement:

“We’re always focused on how to best serve our customers, including evaluating our store footprint and formats across the country. As part of this ongoing review of our store strategy, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the Pointe-Aux-Trembles (12675 Sherbrooke E.) and Côte-des-Neiges (6700 Ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges) stores in Quebec. The Côte-des-Neiges store will officially close on June 19, 2026 and the Pointe-Aux-Trembles store will close on June 26, 2026.

While these decisions are never easy, they are part of our ongoing efforts to ensure we meet the evolving needs of our customers and position our business for continued growth in Quebec. We remain deeply committed to the Quebec market and have plans to open new stores in the province as part of our planned $6.5 billion investment in our store and supply chain footprint. We look forward to welcoming our customers to other nearby Walmart Canada stores in the greater Montreal area.”

About 130 employees work at the Côte-des-Neiges location and more than 107 in Pointe-aux-Trembles.

Officials say Walmart plans to invest over $150 million in Quebec to open a Sherbrooke Supercentre, renovating 18 stores across the province.

Walmart has been serving Quebec since 1994 and operates more than 70 stores across the province – employing more than 12,000 associates.
