Field fire breaks out in St-Hubert, thousands without power

A fire broke out around 4 p.m. in a field near Saint-Bruno Street in Saint-Hubert, on Montreal’s South Shore – prompting an emergency response in the area.

One resident told CityNews the flames spread quickly due to strong winds, coming close to nearby homes and igniting patches of dry grass in some front yards.

Emergency crews closed off the area along Joseph-Daigneault Street, guiding residents and asking others to stay indoors as they worked to contain the fire.

By 6 p.m. it was not said to be contained, but also not fully under control.

It seems there are no injuries reported.

It’s still unclear if any homes were impacted by flames.

According to Hydro-Québec’s website, nearly 2,000 residents in the surrounding area were without power Thursday afternoon.

CityNews contacted the local fire department for the area, but they have yet to get back to us with more details.

Longueuil Police (SPAL) referred us to the Saint-Hubert fire department.
