Montreal blue-collar workers elect new union president amid contract negotiations

By Lia Lévesque, The Canadian Press

The union representing Montreal’s blue-collar workers elected a new president at a general meeting held on Wednesday.

The former president, Jean-Pierre Lauzon, lost the election. He was replaced by Nicolas De Ciccio, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which is affiliated with the FTQ, confirmed on Thursday.

This marks a change in leadership, coming as negotiations are still underway to renew the collective agreement between the City of Montreal and Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal (CUPE 301).

The dispute centers primarily on wages.
