Police officers with the Équipe intégrée de lutte au trafic d’armes (EILTA) which fights gun violence and drug trafficking are carrying out a series of raids Wednesday morning.
The task force includes officers from the the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), the Canada Border Services Agency, and members of the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ).
The operation, which stems from an investigation that began last April, involves approximately 70 police officers and targets an organization linked to the North Savage Gang involved in drug trafficking and armed violence.
Most of the ongoing searches are targeting residences located in Longue-Rive in the Haute-Côte-Nord region.
The task force is working in collaboration with the Quebec National Organized Crime Squad (ENRCO), the Saguenay Regional Joint Squad Saguenay, and the MRC Côte-Nord Investigations Division.
The CENTAURE strategy is designed to maintain pressure on organized crime and combat gun violence in Quebec. CENTAURE enables all partner law enforcement agencies to maximize their efforts at the national, regional, and local levels, targeting the supply, importation, distribution, and illegal possession of firearms.
Any information related to the possession, trafficking, or use of firearms can be reported to the CENTAURE tip line at 1-833-888-ARME (2763).
