Kitchen fire forces residents out of apartment building in St-Henri

A kitchen fire in a three-storey apartment building forced several residents from their homes early Tuesday morning in Montreal’s St-Henri borough.

Firefighters were called around 4:25 a.m. to the six-unit building near Turgeon street and the intersections of Sainte-Émilie street and Saint-Ambroise street.

Officials say the blaze was accidental and originated in a kitchen.

About 15 firefighters responded to the scene, while 10 residents were temporarily displaced. The Canadian Red Cross is assisting those affected.
