Honoré Mercier Bridge traffic impacts July 17 to Aug. 3: one lane open per direction

Quebec’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility advises road users that major obstructions are expected over the weekend from July 17 to August 3, 2026. The Honoré Mercier Bridge, located on Route 138 between Montréal and the South Shore, will be partially closed during this time.

This obstruction is required in order to repair part of the concrete slab of the upstream bridge (towards the South Shore).

Obstructions and traffic management

Honoré Mercier Bridge – One lane in each direction from July 17 to August 3, 2026 (CNW Group/Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable)

Honoré Mercier Bridge (Route 138), from Friday, July 17, at 11 p.m., to Monday, August 3, at 5 a.m.

  • One lane open in each direction on the bridge.
  • Closure of the entrance and reserved lane from Airlie Street.

Mitigation measures to facilitate traffic flow

Aware of the repercussions of the project on mobility in the sector, the Ministry, in collaboration with Mobility Montréal’s partners, will deploy the following mitigation measures.

Public transit

  • Extension of the hours of operation of the reserved lane on Highway 138, eastbound, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week, for the duration of the work.
  • Adjustment of exo service schedules for buses in the Haut-Saint-Laurent and Sud-Ouest sectors.
  • Activation of the bus prioritization traffic light, located at the intersection of Highways 207 and 132/138, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week, for the duration of the work.

Trucking

  • Traffic ban for trucks with three or more axles, Monday to Friday, during the following time slots:
    • toward Montreal: between 5 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.;
    • toward the South Shore: between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Truckers are invited to use other crossings to travel between the two shores, including the Samuel-De Champlain and Jacques-Cartier bridges.

Other measure

  • Modification of the traffic management schedule on the Victoria Bridge as follows:
    • from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., 2 lanes toward Montreal;
    • from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., 2 lanes toward the South Shore.
  • Please note: heavy vehicles remain prohibited on the Victoria Bridge.

The detour routes will be marked with temporary signage. Episodes of congestion are to be expected. The Ministry recommends that road users who will have to travel in the area allow more time to get to their destination, especially to the airport.

Work may be postponed, extended or cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or operational constraints. Before hitting the road, it is recommended that you consult Québec 511, a practical tool for properly planning your trips, and download the Québec 511 mobile application to activate notifications.
