A 44-year-old man who was the victim of an armed assault in Montreal on Monday morning has died from his injuries.
Montreal police (SPVM) confirmed his death Monday evening, stating that it was the “twelfth homicide to occur within the SPVM’s jurisdiction in 2026.”
The attack occurred around 11 a.m. on De La Gauchetière Street, near De Bullion Street, in the Ville-Marie borough.
According to initial witness accounts gathered by police, “a suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the lower body following a dispute,” said Manuel Couture, SPVM spokesperson.

The suspect, a 39-year-old woman, had already left the crime scene when officers arrived to assist the injured man.
The woman was eventually arrested later that day, the SPVM confirmed around 10:45 p.m. She will be interviewed by investigators and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
The charges will be determined by the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions.
