Montreal celebrates Canada Day with free events at Grand Quai

"The government takes care of its citizens," says a Montrealer, when asked what he loves the most about Canada and what makes him proud of this country during Canada Day festivities Wednesday in Montreal's Old port.

Canadians came together at the Grand Quai in Montreal’s Old Port Wednesday for an epic celebration of Canada Day.

Under the slogan “In Montreal, Canada comes together in motion”, this year’s edition included a day filled with free, accessible, civic activities and major official moments – including a ceremonial 21-gun salute by the Canadian Armed Forces, flag raising, the national anthem accompanied by the military band and a citizenship ceremony welcoming new Canadians.

“The government is taking care of their citizens very sincerely and I am very happy here and the last 23 years my experience is very, very adventurous and positive,” said one Montrealer.

The site came alive with family activities inspired by soccer – in what organizers are calling a nod to the World Cup – for a day built around movement, play and team spirit.

To complete the occasion, visitors enjoyed food trucks, a picnic and relaxation area, Canada Day mini-cakes and festive music program and more.

The celebration will feature live performances throughout the day by Anyma Ora’, King Melrose, William Cloutier and Antonin Prinz.

The event is free and open to the public. The full schedule of events can be found on the event website.
