Pastry shop targeted by arson in Montreal’s Lasalle

By The Canadian Press

A Montreal pastry shop was the target of arson early Saturday morning.

Around 2:00 a.m., a suspect reportedly smashed the window of the shop located on Newman Boulevard, near Lise Street, in the Lasalle borough, and set it on fire inside, according to initial reports from the Montreal police (SPVM).

A web search using Google Maps confirms that Pâtisserie Lasalle is located at the address indicated by the SPVM.

The suspect reportedly fled on foot before firefighters and police arrived; they found incendiary materials at the crime scene.

“The damage to the building is minor,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for the SPVM. She added that no one was injured.

The suspect is still at large, and no arrests have been made yet, Chèvrefils added.

The investigation has been transferred to the SPVM’s arson unit, and investigators will be interviewing witnesses.
