Legendary sports broadcaster and ‘Voice of Montreal Expos’ Jacques Doucet dies at 86

Sports broadcaster Jacques Doucet, who called games for the Montreal Expos for 33 years, has died at the age of 86.
His daughter Martine confirmed the news on social media. Doucet passed away Thursday evening.
Born on March 8, 1940, in Montreal, Doucet began his career as a sports journalist in 1959 at La Presse Canadienne and covered the Expos’ debut in 1969 for the daily newspaper La Presse. However, he won the hearts of Quebec baseball fans starting in 1972, when he took over as the full-time radio play-by-play announcer for Expos games. He continued in that role until the team moved to Washington at the end of the 2004 season.
He then went on to call baseball games on television, first for RDS and later for TVA Sports.
Doucet received the Medal of Honor from the Quebec National Assembly in 2011. He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020.
Health issues forced him to retire for good in 2022. He revealed in 2024 that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
His longtime partner Rodger Brulotte passed away on March 20 of this year.
