Food insecurity: Metro Shared Kitchen now open at Sun Youth in Montreal

A Metro Shared Kitchen in Sun Youth’s facilities in Montreal is now open.
The community kitchen will allow Sun Youth to prepare meals, organize cooking activities, and offer culinary workshops and training sessions.
The aim is also to develop initiatives that promote food autonomy, social inclusion and reintegration.
The Shared Kitchen, developed with Food Banks of Quebec, will primarily respond to the needs of individuals and families supported by Sun Youth, particularly through its food programs as well as its sports activities and day camps.
“The purpose of the community kitchen is to share with other community organizations that have collective kitchens,” explained Marina Boulos-Winton, Sun Youth’s executive director. “So to bring people from either this neighbourhood, other neighbourhoods who want to learn how to prepare meals that are inexpensive, typically include the kitchens at community gardens as well as community food banks. And Sun Youth does have one of the major food banks in Montreal.”
It’s the 15th Metro Shared Kitchen.
