SQDC earned more than previous year in first quarter with $31.9 million

The Quebec Cannabis Corporation (SQDC) recorded a net income of $31.9 million during the first quarter which ended on June 20, up from $27.7 million for the same period in the previous fiscal year.
The first quarter of this fiscal year saw total sales of $193.7 million, representing 39,936 kg of cannabis. In the previous fiscal year, sales totaled $181 million, or 37,114 kg of cannabis.
“This increase reflects the growth in purchases made on the legal market rather than the illegal market and is explained in particular by the opening of six branches since the first quarter of the previous fiscal year” as well as the sale of cannabis vaping products and the change in opening hours, the SQDC explained in a press release published late Thursday.
In addition to the sales figures, there are tax revenues generated by consumption and excise taxes, representing an amount of $73.8 million.
Of this sum, $52.9 million goes to the Quebec government, and $20.9 million to the federal government.
The net result and Quebec’s share of the excise tax are paid, among other things, into the Addiction Prevention Fund.
