Montreal police (SPVM)’s arson squad is investigating after a vehicle was allegedly set on fire in Montreal’s St-Leonard borough early Wednesday morning.

SPVM received a 911 call around 2 a.m. reporting a car on fire on J.-B.-Martineau Street near Viau Boulevard.

When officers arrived on the scene, firefighters were already working to bring the flames under control. However, the vehicle is considered to be a total loss.

“No incendiary materials were found on site,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for the SPVM. “Certain elements on the scene suggest a fire of a criminal nature.”

The vehicle was towed and will be analyzed by investigators.
