A man in his 30s was injured by a sharp object during an altercation that escalated overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the western part of the Island of Montreal.

Police were called to the scene following a 911 call around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday morning near the intersection of Gouin Boulevard and 8th Avenue in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough.

“When officers arrived at the scene, they located a victim: a 35-year-old man. He was conscious and had upper-body injuries caused by a sharp object. He was transported to a hospital,” said Officer Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM). His condition was unknown at the time.

The victim knows his assailant, and the suspect — a 38-year-old man — was arrested around 3:45 a.m. in Mirabel, on the northern outskirts of Montreal.

“The suspect was taken to an investigation center, where he will be interviewed by investigators in the coming hours,” said the SPVM spokesperson.

A security perimeter has been established to protect the crime scene and facilitate the work of investigators and the forensic technician.

“Witnesses to the incident have been interviewed by police,” said Officer Chèvrefils. “Checks will be conducted on possible surveillance cameras located near the scene.”
