St-Laurent bakery targeted by arson two nights in a row

Montreal police (SPVM) say a kosher bakery in Montreal’s St-Laurent borough was allegedly set on fire deliberately Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, following a first attempt 24 hours earlier.

Officers were called around 12:30 a.m. to a reported fire in a commercial building on Saint-Louis Street, near Gratton Street.

No injuries were reported, but the damage to the business is said to be significant.

Officials say this is the second time this business has been set ablaze. The first attempt was reported to authorities on Monday around 11:30 p.m.

Police say the bakery has ties to the Jewish community. The case has been transferred to both the Arson and Hate Crimes Unit to shed light on the circumstances of the incidents.
