Quebec friends win $1M jackpot

Friendship can have a lot of ups and downs, but not much can get better than winning the lottery.

That was the case for a pair of Quebecers — Lauraine Fortin Gingras and Patricia Contré Voyer — who recently won the Lotto 6/49 million dollar draw.

Despite no longer living close to each other — with one living in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, while the other lives in Laurentides — Fortin Gingras and Contré Voyer have been buying lottery tickets together for several years.

Fortin Gingras checked the ticket using the Loto-Québec app.

“I saw the amount appear… I kept counting the zeros!” she explained, before saying that she called her friend to let her know the good news.

Both of them are planning to travel with their winnings, Fortin Gingras plans to travel to Scotland with her spouse, whereas Contré Voyer will fly to Switzerland to visit her daughter.
