After a fire ravaged a four-storey apartment building in Saint-Michel on Oct. 19, residents were displaced. Although the building has since reopened, one resident say their belongings have gone missing.
The apartment building, located near the corner of Crémazie East Boulevard and Saint-Michel Boulevard, was damaged by a major five-alarm fire.
Residents were relieved when they were told they could return to their homes to collect their belongings.
However, one resident reported that several items were missing, including clothing, jewellery, electronics and cash.
The Montreal police (SPVM) confirmed that a police report had been filed regarding the alleged theft. Police said that when officers arrived, they found the entrance door damaged but did not identify any other evidence. The investigation has since been closed.
Many residents are still struggling to find temporary accommodations while restoration work on the apartment building is underway.
Another fire victim, who works for Bluebird Self Storage, reportedly said that his branch on Metropolitan Boulevard East is offering to waive storage fees for three months for all residents of the building.
