The city of Côte Saint-Luc is looking to keep its mask mandate in place for some municipal buildings, including libraries and community centers, even after the province removes the requirement.
Quebec expects to phase-out masks mid-April for public spaces, and by May for public transit.
Côte Saint-Luc was one of the first municipalities in Canada to enforce a mask mandate in stores and other buildings and mayor Mitchell Brownstein says officials will discuss keeping that in place.
In an email to CityNews, he adds that they are consulting with doctors and directors on their team to determine where masks would be appropriate to ensure that those who may fear attending activities and facilities would benefit from masks.
“We do not want members of our vulnerable population to retreat back in to their homes in isolation and wish to do our best to ensure they do not get infected, hospitalized or worse,” wrote Brownstein.
“This approach will benefit the economy as well, wherever implemented, as more people will be able to participate in all that is offered to them. We therefore encourage other cities and private businesses to do the same where appropriate.”
