Papineau south remains closed for emergency road repairs

By News Staff

Papineau south remains closed, between Sherbrooke and de Maisonneuve, after emergency road work was needed on Monday afternoon.

This is the main artery towards the Jacques-Cartier Bridge to head off the island.

The surface damage was initially about a 10-inch hole, but excavation must be done to better target the area – close to an aqueduct.

A faulty sewer pipe connection between a new housing and the mainline is believed to be the problem.

Work is expected to last until at least Wednesday evening rush-hour, possibly late that night.

Montreal police tweeted to ask motorists to avoid the area.

Officers are at a number of intersections to control traffic flow.
